Lisboa »» Lisbon

Este fim-de-semana fomos até Lisboa. Há muito tempo que queria ir com as miúdas a Lisboa. Já tínhamos ido ao Zoo e à Kidzania, mas ainda não tínhamos ido conhecer o centro lisboeta.

A ideia era conhecer um pouco dos pontos turísticos da capital e também andar de metro e de eléctrico, coisa que por aqui não dá para fazer.

O tempo esteve fantástico e a viagem correu da melhor forma possível.

This weekend we went to Lisbon. I  wanted to visit Lisbon with the girls. We had already been to the Zoo and KidZania, but we had not been to the center of Lisbon.

The idea was to see some of the most popular sights of the capital and also go by Metro and tram. 

The weather was fantastic and the trip went as well as possible.

Oceanário

No Sábado fomos direitos ao Parque das Nações, onde visitámos o Oceanário e o Pavilhão do Conhecimento. Ao fim da tarde ainda deu tempo para andar de teleférico.

Mais uma vez optamos por ficar hospedados no Novotel, que é fantástico para famílias com crianças. É um hotel com uma excelente relação qualidade-preço, instalações a pensar nas crianças, quartos espaçosos  e onde as crianças não pagam!

On Saturday we went right to the Parque das Nações, where we visited the Oceanário and the Pavilhão do Conhecimento. By late afternoon we still had time to ride the cable car.

We decided to stay again in Novotel, which is a fantastic hotel for families with children. It is a hotel with an excellent quality-price ratio, facilities with kids in mind, and spacious rooms where children don't pay!

No Martim Moniz à espera do Eléctrico 28

No domingo, depois de um excelente pequeno-almoço, deixamos o carro no hotel e fomos de Metro até ao centro da cidade. Optamos por comprar cartões Viva Viagem, e assim por 6,50€ por pessoa pudemos utilizar toda a rede de transportes públicos sem ter de pagar mais nada.

Descemos nos Restauradores e fomos apanhar o Eléctrico 28 ao Martim Moniz. O eléctrico levou-nos até ao miradouro de Santa Luzia. Daí seguimos a pé até ao Castelo de São Jorge. Descemos então até à Sé de Lisboa e daí até à Praça do Comércio e à Rua Augusta.

Parámos então para almoçar num pequeno restaurante, pois para além de já estarem com fome também estavam bastante cansadas.

On Sunday, after a great breakfast, we left the car at the hotel and we went by metro to the city center. We chose to purchase Viva Viagem cards, and so for € 6.50 per person we could use all public transport without paying anything more.

We went to Restauradores station and then walked to Martim Moniz to catch tram 28. The tram took us to the viewpoint of Santa Luzia. Then we walked to Castelo de São Jorge. Then on our way to downtown we stopped at the Cathedral of Lisbon and then continued to the Praça do Comércio and Rua Augusta.There we stopped for lunch at a small restaurant, because in addition to being hungry we were also quite tired.

Voltámos a apanhar o Metro e descemos nos Restauradores. Logo ao lado está a paragem do Elevador da Glória. Subimos então no elevador até ao Jardim de S. Pedro de Alcântara, outro miradouro fantástico da cidade.

We again took the Metro to Restauradores. Close by is the Glória funicular stop. The Elevador da Glória took us all the way up to the  S. Pedro de Alcântara Garden, another fantastic viewpoint of the city.

Voltámos a descer no elevador e fomos a pé até à Rua do Ouro onde apanhámos o Elevador de Santa Justa.

Chegamos ao Largo do Carmo onde aproveitámos para descansar e comer um merecido gelado. Descemos então ao Chiado, onde a mamã pode dar uma vista de olhos nas lojas.

We went back down the elevator and walked to the Rua do Ouro where we took the Santa Justa Elevator. 

We arrived at the Largo do Carmo where we decided to rest and eat a well-deserved ice cream. Then started our way down to the Chiado, where mom had a look to the shops.

Apanhámos finalmente o Metro de volta ao hotel e regressamos a casa ainda a tempo do jantar, pois no dia seguinte era dia de trabalho e de escola.

A verdade é que passear com crianças em cidades  não é fácil, mas apesar de bastante cansativo, foi um fim-de-semana bem passado.

We finally caught the Metro back to the hotel and return home in time for dinner. Because the next day was a work and school day.

The truth is that exploring cities with children is not easy, but although quite tiring, it was a great weekend.

Arrábida

Setembro já vai a meio e com o início do ano lectivo é como se hoje começasse um novo ano. Já fui levar as miúdas à escola, novas rotinas, novos horários e uma certa nostalgia por deixar de estar com elas o dia todo, mas tem de ser... e a verdade é que sem elas em casa sobra muito mais tempo para os meus mimos :)

Aproveitámos este último fim-de-semana antes do início da escola para ir descobrir mais uma das maravilhas de Portugal, desta vez fomos à descoberta do Parque Natural da Serra da Arrábida. E ficámos rendidos a tanta beleza.
O nosso passeio começou em Setúbal na avenida principal, mais propriamente na Avenida Luísa Todi. Daí partimos em direcção à serra e às suas praias. Praia do Albarquel, Figueirinha e o belíssimo Portinho da Arrábida foram as nossas preferidas. Entre a praia do Albarquel e a de Figueirinha encontrámos o parque da Comenda onde aproveitámos para fazer um piquenique.
Depois deixámos as praias para trás e fomos até à pacata vila de Azeitão, onde aproveitámos para provar a famosa torta de Azeitão. De volta a Setúbal, fomos jantar a um dos muitos restaurantes à beira das docas onde provámos a especialidade da zona, o choco frito.
No domingo fomos direitos à praia da Figueirinha para aproveitar uma fantástica manhã de sol. Com a maré baixa formam-se bancos de areia que fazem as delícias de pequenos e graúdos.
Continuámos, então viagem passando por Sesimbra. Já de regresso a casa demos ainda um pulo à tão conhecida Costa da Caparica.
E assim foi o nosso fim-de-semana.E agora que comesse o ano!

We are already in mid-September and with the beginning of the school year it's as if today a new year begins. I took the girls to school, new routines, new schedules and a certain nostalgia for not being with them all day, but it's the way it is ... and the truth is that without them at home I have a lot more spare time for my sweet felt creations : )

We took this last weekend before the start of school to go find another one of the wonders of Portugal, this time we went to the discovery of the Natural Park of Arrábida. And we were surrendered to such beauty. 
Our tour began in Setúbal on the main avenue, more specifically on Avenida Luísa Todi. Then we headed towards the mountains and the beaches. Albarquel beach, Figueirinha beach and the beautiful Portinho da Arrábida were our favorites. Between the beaches of Albarquel and Figueirinha we found a lovely spot for a picnic at Parque da Comenda. 
After we left the beaches we went to the quiet village of Azeitão, where we savored a piece of Torta de Azeitão. Back in Setúbal, we had dinner at one of the many restaurants on the edge of the docks where we tasted Setúbal's specialty, fried cuttlefish. 
On Sunday we went to Figueirinha beach to enjoy a fantastic sunny morning. With low tide it forms sand banks that are the delight of children and adults. 
We then continued our travel through Sesimbra. Before returning home we had time for a peek at Costa da Caparica. 
And so was our weekend. And now let the year begin!

Estamos hoje de partida para férias. Para o "nosso" pequeno paraíso rodeado por dois mares. Vejo-vos em breve!

Gerês

Este fim-de-semana fomos até ao Gerês, um sítio mágico onde poderia ser perfeitamente normal encontrar uma fada.

Partimos no sábado de manhã sem pressas com uma mala de roupa e um cesto de piquenique. 

Chegámos a Cerdeirinhas, povoação que marca o início do Parque Nacional Peneda-Gerês, e continuámos, então, o nosso caminho até à barragem da Caniçada, onde um imenso espelho de água nos dá as boas vindas.

This weekend we went to Gerês, a magic place where we would find perfectly normal to see a fairy.
We left on Saturday morning with no hurry with a suitcase and a picnic basket. We reached Cerdeirinhas (village that marks the beginning of the Peneda-Geres National Park) and went on our way to the dam of Caniçada, where an immense body of water gives us a warm welcome.

Seguindo pela estrada que acompanha a barragem dirigimo-nos então para a Vila do Gerês, local onde decidimos ficar hospedados. Sendo ainda cedo, começamos à descoberta das mais belas paisagens.

Partindo da Vila do Gerês, seguimos em direcção da Barragem da Caniçada. Poucos metros à frente encontrámos um entroncamento com a indicação de "Ermida". Virámos nessa direcção e seguimos por essa estrada estreita durante mais ou menos 5 km. Como a hora do almoço se aproximava parámos à sombra de umas árvores, coisa que por estes lados não falta, e fizemos o nosso piquenique. 

Continuando caminho chegámos então à indicação para "Cabril" onde se enfrenta umas descidas muito acentuadas até se chegar a uma ponte sobre o Rio Arado. Estacionámos o carro e começámos uma descida vertiginosa a pé pelo lado direito da ponte. Pelo caminho encontrámos pequenas quedas de água que formam belas lagoas onde aproveitámos para nos refrescar. Optámos por não descer até ao fundo, pois o caminho era bastante a pique, difícil e perigoso, tanto para as miúdas como para a mãe delas. Segundo as indicações que eu tinha encontrado na internet, era suposto chegarmos a uma lagoa rodeada de areia donde se pode observar uma das maiores e mais belas cascatas do Gerês, as "Cascatas do Tahiti". Será com certeza uma razão para lá voltarmos daqui a alguns anos.

We headed to Vila do Gerês in the road that follows the dam. As it was still early, we began the discovery of  the most beautiful landscapes. 

 Starting from the village of Gerês, towards the dam of Caniçada, a few meters ahead we found a junction with the indication of "Ermida." We turned in that direction and we followed this road for about 5 km. As it was almost lunchtime, we stopped in the shade of some trees, something that does not lack in these parts, and made our picnic. Then we continued our way until we found the indication for "Cabril" and proceeded until we reached a bridge over the "Rio Arado". We parked the car and started a steep descent on foot from the right side of the bridge. Along the way we found small waterfalls forming beautiful lakes where we could refresh ourselves. We chose not to go down to the bottom, because the descent was difficult and dangerous for both the girls and for their mother. According to the information I had found on the Internet we were supposed to get to a lake surrounded by sand where you can see one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls of Gerês, the "Cascata do Tahiti." This will be a good reason to come back in a few years.

De volta ao carro, seguimos até ao cruzamento onde tomámos a direcção do "Cabril" e virámos à direita na direcção de "Ermida". Subimos sempre por essa estrada até chegarmos a um entroncamento com as indicações "Pedra Bela" à esquerda e "Cascata do Arado" à direita. Tomámos o rumo da direita e seguimos o caminho junto ao rio até à ponte. Aí subimos a pé por umas escadas até ao miradouro da cascata. Segundo as indicações que eu tinha, aqui poderíamos ter continuado a subir pelas rochas e chegaríamos a um pequeno riacho e a outra cascata com uma lagoa onde se pode tomar banho. Fica para a próxima.

Decidimos voltar para o carro e seguir a direcção de "Pedra Bela", um dos mais belos miradouros do Gerês, onde a beleza da paisagem enche a alma a qualquer visitante.

Chegámos ao hotel ainda a tempo de nos refrescar na piscina, porque apesar de estarmos em meados da Outubro o tempo estava espectacular.

Back in the car we got back to the junction where we took the direction of "Cabril" and we turned right towards "Ermida." We climbed that road until we reached a junction with the indications "Pedra Bela" on the left and "Cascada do Arado" on the right. We took the path at our right and followed the path along the river up to the bridge. Then we climbed the stairs up to the viewpoint of the cascade. According to the information I had, here we could continue to climb the rocks and we would arrive at a small stream with a waterfall and another lake where we could bathe. We saved this bit for next time.

We decided to go back to the car and follow the direction of "Pedra Bela", one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Gerês, where the beauty of the landscape fills the soul of any visitor. 

We returned to Vila do Gerês driving through a road just to the left. We reached the hotel in time to refresh ourselves in the pool, because although we are in mid-October the weather was spectacular.

No dia seguinte, partimos na direcção da "Portela do Homem" passando pela "Mata de Albergaria". Após passarmos pela segunda cabana de controlo estacionámos e fizemos a pé o percurso de volta até à ponte sobre o rio Homem, onde tirámos umas fotos noutra belíssima cascata.

On the next day we set off towards the "Portela do Homem " driving through the " Mata de Albergaria".  After passing the second control cabin we parked our car and walked the way back to the bridge over the river "Rio Homem", where we took pictures of another beautiful waterfall.

Voltámos para o carro e aventurámo-nos por terras espanholas até à povoação de "Torneiros", onde existe uma fantástica nascente de água quente com uma piscina (que até deita fumo) e donde a água corre para o rio. Como ainda era cedo e estava um pouco de frio, não tivemos coragem para imitar os outros turistas e tomar banho. Molhámos só os pés e as mãos para nos certificarmos que a água era mesmo quente! Mais um local para tornar a visitar.

We returned to the car and ventured on the Spanish land to the village of "Torneros" where there is a fantastic hot spring with a pool and where the water flows into the river. As it was still early and I was a little cold, we had no courage to imitate the other tourists and get in the water. We just got our feet and hands in the water to make sure that the water was really hot! Another place to revisit in the future.

Voltámos pelo mesmo caminho até à Vila do Gerês onde aproveitámos para visitar as termas e o belíssimo parque das termas.

Já no caminho de regresso, voltámos a parar em Vilar da Veiga junto à Barragem da Caniçada onde almoçámos num pequeno restaurante.

Regressámos então a casa com a certeza dum fim-de-semana bem passado.

We returned the same way to the village of Gerês, where we visited the spa and the beautiful park of the spa. On the way back we stopped again at Vilar da Veiga near Caniçada  dam where we had lunch in a small restaurant. Then we returned home with the certainty of a weekend well spent.

Bordallo Pinheiro

Como já vos tinha contado no nosso passeio pela costa Oeste Portuguesa fomos à fábrica Bordallo Pinheiro.
Eu já conhecia a cerâmica tradicional: a couve e o Zé Povinho, mas para ser sincera não gostava muito.
Até que uma vez a folhear uma revista vi fotos da chef Mafalda Pinto Leite na sua cozinha, e por detrás dela estavam pratos de pé lindíssimos.Tinha que descobrir qual era a marca e logo percebi que eram Bordallo Pinheiro. Claro que estando a passear por perto das Caldas da Rainha tinha que fazer uma visitinha à fábrica e especialmente à loja da fábrica.

As I had already told you on our tour to the Portuguese west coast we went to Bordallo Pinheiro factory . 
I already knew the traditional pottery: the cabbage and John Doe, but to be honest I did not like it. 
Until a time flipping through a magazine I saw photos of the portuguese chef Mafalda Pinto Leite in her kitchen, and behind her there were beautiful cake stands.I didn't know that pottery but soon realized it was Bordallo Pinheiro. Of course, being near Caldas da Rainha I had to stop by the factory and especially at the factory store.

Depois mostro-vos o que comprei.

Oeste »» West

A semana passada fomos passear até ao oeste e fiquei rendida à beleza natural das praias. Vale mesmo a pena visitar!
Last week we went to a region called west and I was surrendered to the natural beauty of the beaches. It's really worth a visit! 

 

Começamos por ir até à Foz do Arelho, onde a lagoa encontra o mar.
We started by going to Foz do Arelho, where the lagoon meets the sea.

A seguir fomos visitar Peniche e a Praia do Baleal.
Next we visited Peniche and Baleal Beach.

A meio da tarde deixamos as praias para trás e fomos visitar a cidade e o castelo de Óbidos.
In the middle of the afternoon we left the beaches behind and headed to the city and castle of Óbidos.

O nosso passeio não estaria completo sem uma visita rápida às Caldas da Rainha, onde fui à fábrica Bordalo Pinheiro, mas essa história fica para outro dia...
