You Are My Sunshine

 Adoro quando me pedem para fazer algo diferente. Fazer um trabalho ao gosto da cliente dá-me imenso gozo. Conversamos, partilhamos fotos ou imagens, trocamos ideias, chegamos ao produto idealizado e por fim o produto é feito. Existe assim todo um processo que é em muito diferente de comprar algo já pronto, igual a tantos outros. Há até uma responsabilidade acrescida de ir de encontro ao que é esperado.

Esta semana seguiu mais uma encomenda personalizada a caminho da sua nova casa. Espero que seja do agrado da cliente. Depois partilho convosco o feedback.
Neste caso o quarto da bebé está decorado com o tema "You are my Sunshine" e todo em tons clarinhos de amarelo, cinza, verde e azul.

 I love it when people ask me to make something different. Making something special for a client gives me great joy. We talk, share photos or images, exchange ideas, come to the idealized product and finally the product is made. There is thus a whole process that is very different from buying something ready, just like so many others. There is even an increased responsibility to meet what is expected.

 This week I worked on another custom order that is already on it's way to it's new home. I hope the customer likes it. I will share the customer's feedback with you. 
In this case the baby's room is decorated with the theme "You are my Sunshine" and all in light shades of yellow, gray, green and blue.

Na semana passada as miúdas fizeram mais um projecto de costura sozinhas: uma casinha de tecido com cheirinho a alfazema!

Verão »» Summer

O Verão já começou e as férias da escola também!

Este ano as miúdas querem aproveitar as férias para aprender costura, por isso preparei alguns projectos muitos giros que são super fáceis de fazer.

Começámos por fazer gelados em feltro. Eu só fiz o molde e dei as instruções. Elas copiaram o molde para o feltro, cortaram e coseram à máquina!

Ficaram super felizes por conseguirem fazer tudo sozinhas e ainda ganharam dois gelados em feltro para usar nas suas brincadeiras : )

Summer has begun and so have the school holidays ! 

This year the girls want to learn sewing during the holidays, so I prepared some fun projects that are super easy to make. 

We started by making felt popsicles. I just made the pattern and gave the instructions. They copied the template to the felt, cut and machine stitched ! 

They were very happy to get to do it all by themselves and got two felt popsicles to play with :)

Jogo da Memória »» Memory Game

Este fim-de-semana eu e as miúdas fizemos um Jogo da Memória com materiais reciclados.
Um não, dois! É claro!
A escola delas está  envolvida no projecto Eco-Escolas e a ideia era criar um brinquedo ou jogo que pudesse ser utilizado no recreio pelas crianças e que fosse feito a partir de material reciclado.
Utilizamos garrafões de água, tampas de garrafões, cordel e papel. E aqui estão eles! Prova superada : )

This weekend the girls and I made a eco-friendly Memory Game with recycled materials.
Not one, two! Of course! 
Their school is involved in the Eco-Schools project and the idea was to create a toy or game made ​​from recycled material that could be used by children in the playground. 
We used water bottles, bottle lids, string and paper. And here they are!

Cartão Dia do Pai »» Father's Day Card

As férias da Páscoa já começaram e agora somos 3 o dia todo! Eu gosto de as ter por casa, pois podemos fazer actividades que durante o período escolar não é possível. Entre ver televisão, brincar e fazer trabalhos de casa querem fazer algo de diferente todos os dias. E como hoje é Dia do Pai ontem fizemos uns cartões para elas darem ao Pai!
São super fáceis de fazer (assim que se percebe como) e ficam tão fofos : )

The Easter holidays have started and now we are 3 all day! I like to have them home all day because we do activities that we can't do during school time. In between watching television, playing and doing some homework they want to do something different every day. And since today is Father's Day yesterday we made some cards for them to give to their Father!
They are super easy to make (as soon as we can figure it out) and they are so cute: )

Tirei a ideia do site da Martha Stewart, mas a verdade é que as instruções estão indecifráveis, mas depois de alguma pesquisa na net lá os conseguimos fazer. Aproveitei e fui tirando umas fotos do processo, assim vocês podem também fazer um cartãozinho!

I took the idea from Martha Stewart's site, but the truth is that the instructions are indecipherable. But after some research on the net we were able to make them. I took some pictures so you can also make a card!

Pegue numa cartolina e corte um rectângulo. O nosso tem 24x17 cm.

Take a cardboard and cut a rectangle. Ours is 24x17 cm.

Dobre ao meio para decobrir o centro. E volte a abrir a folha.

Fold in half to find the center. And re-open the sheet.

Dobre cada ponta até ao meio do folha e vinque bem.

Fold each end to the middle of the sheet and crease well.

Faça dobragens como vê na foto para fazer as mangas.

Make folds as seen in the photo to make the sleeves.

Vire o papel ao contrário e dobre o fundo.

Turn the paper over and fold the bottom.

Volte a virar o papel e faça dobragens como vê na foto para fazer o colarinho.

Turn the paper again and fold as seen in the photo to make the collar.

Dobre o papel ao meio e enfie a parte que tem as mangas por baixo do colarinho!

Recorte uma gravata dum pedaço de papel e cole.

Fold the paper in half and insert the part that has the sleeves below the collar! 

Cut a tie from a piece of paper and glue it to the shirt.

A semana passada estive a fazer mais cartões de agradecimento para enviar junto com as encomendas. E ocorreu-me que ainda não os tinha mostrado aqui!
Cartolina branca e restinhos de tecido e voilá - cartões simples, rápidos, baratos e ecológicos!

Last week I made more Thank You cards to send along with the orders. And it occurred to me that I still had not shown them here!
White cardboard and fabric leftovers and voilá - simple, quick, cheap and environmentally friendly cards!

Botões de fimo »» Fimo buttons

As miúdas estão de férias e para as entreter tenho arranjado algumas actividades. Como elas adoram fazer plasticina lembrei-me de fazermos botões de fimo. O fimo é muito parecido com a plasticina, mas é mais resistente, uma vez que vai ao forno depois de modelado.
Elas divertiram-se e eu fiquei com uma colecção de botões feitos à mão : )

The girls are at home for the summer holidays so I've been trying to arrange some new activities for them. As they love to modell clay and play dough I thought we could make some fimo buttons. Fimo is just like play dough, but is a lot more resistent, as it goes to oven after moddeling.
They really had a lot of fun and I got a great collection of handmade buttons : )

T-shirt às riscas »» Stripes Tee

Há algum tempo atrás encontrei na internet um passo-a-passo de pintura em tecido e estava mortinha por experimentar. Decidi experimentar numa t-shirt minha que tinha uma nódoa, pois se corresse mal o mal seria menor. Começámos por colocar cartão grosso atrás e no meio da t-shirt e depois fizemos as riscas colando fita cola isolante de pintor na t-shirt e na mesa. E depois pintámos.

Sometime ago I found a fabric markers tutorial in the internet and was dying to try it out. I decided to do it on a tee with a stain so if it went wrong I wouldn't lose a good tee. We started by putting cardboard on the back and inside the tee and then we made the stripes using painters' tape on the tee and fixed it to a table. And then we painted.

Devo dizer que parece mais fácil do que realmente é! Acho que os marcadores de tinta para tecido que comprei não são próprios para o tipo de pintura que fizemos, pois têm o bico fino. Mas valeu pela experiência e a t-shirt até ficou gira. E as miúdas ficaram super orgulhosas do trabalho que fizeram!

I must say it looks easier than it really is! I think that the fabric markers I bought were not indicated for this kind of painting. But it was totally worth it and the girls were so very proud of their work. And the tee turned out to be cute!

Peixe de madeira »» Wooden fish

As férias da Páscoa este ano não foram muito frutíferas em termos de actividades, isto porque estivemos as três meio adoentadas e com pouca vontade para grandes projectos. A verdade é que comecei a pintar uma estante para o quarto delas e ainda não consegui terminar. Lá está a estante na minha garagem meio pintada à espera que me volte a apetecer continuar o trabalho. Espero que pelo menos a lata de tinta não seque... (quando terminar, prometo que vos mostro)
Mas houve um pequeno projecto que fizemos nas férias e que ainda não vos mostrei.
A minha mãe tinha um peixe de madeira lá por casa, simples sem pintura e pediu-me que o pintasse para o pendurar na parede. Então, deixei as miúdas escolher o desenho e as cores e lá pintámos o peixe.

The Easter holidays this year have not been very fruitful in terms of activities, that because we've all been sick with a cold and with little desire for big projects. The truth is that I started to paint a bookcase for their room and still didn't finish it. There is a shelf in my garage half painted expecting me to continue the work. I hope that at least the paint in the can doesn't dry ... ( I promise to show you when finished)
But there was a small project we did on vacation and I haven't shown you.
My mother had a simple, unpainted, wooden fish at her house and asked me to paint it so that she could hang it on the wall. So, I let the girls choose the design and colors and we painted the fish.

Casas de passarinho »» Bird houses

No espírito da Primavera nós as 3 fizemos estas casinhas de passarinhos. É um projecto fácil e muito divertido e o resultado é uma excelente forma de decorar a casa para a Primavera e também para a Páscoa e passar uma tarde divertida a brincar com as nossas filhas.

In the spirit of Spring we made ​​these three little bird houses. This project is fun and easy and the result is a great way to decorate the house for spring and Easter and also to spend a fun afternoon playing with our daughters.

Usei este molde que tinha guardado no meu computador e infelizmente não sei dizer de onde o tirei. Caso alguém saiba a fonte por favor deixe-me uma mensagem.
Passámos o molde para cartolina e depois colámos papel de embrulho colorido. Recortámos, dobrámos e colámos e ficámos com 3 lindas casinhas : )

I used this pattern I had saved on my computer files. But unfortunately I don't know where I took this from. If you do know the source please leave me a message.
We traced the pattern onto cardbord and then we glued some colourful wrapping paper. We cut, folded and glued and then we got 3 beautiful little houses : )

Secretária "nova" »» "New" desk

A mesa onde tenho a máquina de costura é uma mesa antiga que está toda estragada. Já por diversas vezes pensei em pintá-la, mas eu tenho um pequeno defeito. Adoro transformar e modificar mobília, mas não tenho grande paciência. Quando tenho uma ideia, quero tudo para ontem. Pintar móveis demora: primeiro tem que se lixar, limpar e só depois pintar, esperar que seque e voltar a pintar.

The desk where I have the sewing machine is an old table in a very bad condition. I thought about painting it several times, but I have a small defect. I love to transform and change the furniture, but I don't have great patience. When I have an idea, I want everything for yesterday. Painting furniture takes a lot of time: first you have to sand, clean and then paint, wait for it to dry and then re-paint.

 

 

Sempre que possível procuro arranjar soluções mais imediatas, como esta aqui.

Peguei na mesa, limpei-a e forrei-a com papel de embrulho. Ah e voltei a forrar com película autocolante transparente para lhe dar maior resistência! E já está! Meia hora foi o que bastou para ela ficar assim:

Whenever possible I try to get more immediate solutions such as this one. 

I got the table, wiped it and cover it with wrapping/scrapbooking paper. Oh and I also lined it with transparent adhesive film to give it more strength! That's it! Half an hour was enough for it to look like this:

E se me fartar... fácil... é só voltar a forrar com outro papel. Mais rápido que isto é impossível, não?

And if I get tired of it ... easy ... I only have to do it again with another paper. Faster than this is impossible, don't you think?

Dia das Bruxas »» Halloween

Em Portugal não há a tradição de decorar a casa para o Dia das Bruxas, mas resolvi fazer umas coisinhas que encontrei no site Skip to my Lou.Ontem passámos a tarde a recortar e colar - as miúdas adoraram e hoje levaram as coisas para mostrar lá na escola.

In Portugal we don't have the tradition of making Halloween decorations, but I decided to make some that I found at Skip to my Lou site. 
We spent yesterday afternoon cutting and glueing - the girls loved it so much that today they took the decorations to show to their teacher and friends at school.

Carteira de EVA »» Foam purse

Encontrei este projecto no site Skip To My Lou e é claro que o tínhamos que fazer. As miúdas adoraram puder coser com uma agulha de verdade. Foram também elas que recortaram as formas. Usámos EVA ou crepla que é um material muito fácil de trabalhar (ideal para crianças). Foi uma tarde super divertida.

I found this project at Skip To My Lou site and we just had to try it out. The girls loved the opportunity to sew with a real needle. They also cut the shapes themselves. We used foam sheets which are really easy to work with (great for children). We had a great afternoon.

Páscoa »» Easter

A semana passada ainda arranjámos um tempinho para uma actividade de Páscoa: pintar ovos.
Este ano resolvi comprar ovos de plástico, pois os verdadeiros acabam sempre por se partir. Escusado será dizer que as miúdas adoram este tipo de actividade.
Last week we even found time for an Easter activity: egg painting.This year I decided to buy plastic eggs, because the real ones always end up breaking. Needless to say, the girls love this kind of activity.


Depois de secarem fizemos uns arranjos de Páscoa.
After they dried we arranged them into Easter decorations.


O ovo com a borboleta é do ano passado e foi feito usando a técnica do guardanapo (decoupage).
The egg with the butterfly is from last year and it was done using decoupage.


Este coelhinho fofinho foi também um projecto do ano passado, feito com o passo-a-passo do blog da Betz White.
This sweet bunny was also one of last year Eater projects and it was done using Betz White's tutorial.

Bolo de chocolate »» Chocolate cake

Ontem fiz um bolo de chocolate para o chá.
É uma receita nova, super fácil e acima de tudo deliciosa.

Receita:
Bater 4 ovos com 2 chávenas (de chá) de açúcar. Juntar 1 chávena de leite, 1 chávena de óleo, 1 chávena de chocolate em pó e 2 chávenas de farinha com 1 colher de sobremesa de fermento em pó. Levar a mistura ao forno numa forma untada e polvilhada com farinha.

(Importante: usar sempre a mesma chávena para todos os ingredientes)


Yesterday I made a chocolate cake for tea.
It's a new recipe, super easy and above all delicious.

Recipe:
Beat 4 eggs with 2 teacups sugar. Add 1 teacup milk, 1 teacup oil, 1 teacup of chocolate powder and 2 teacups of flour with 1 teaspoon of baking powder. Bring the mixture to the oven in a pan greased and sprinkled with flour.

(Important: always use the same cup for all ingredients)

A semana passada deu-me para arrumações: limpei, forrei e arrumei roupeiros; limpei e arrumei a despensa; e limpei e arrumei a lavandaria. Isto são coisas que normalmente faço quando começa a Primavera, mas este ano parece que ela nunca mais chega.
No meio de tanta arrumação ainda tive tempo para um projecto que também aguardava por dias de sol. Gosto mais de mexer em tintas quando está sol, mas como ele teima em tardar, resolvi antecipar-me.

Last week was a week for cleaning: I cleaned, lined and packed closets, I cleaned and arranged the pantry, and I cleaned and arranged the laundry. These are things that I normally do when Spring starts, but this year it feels like it will never arrive.Amid so much cleaning and storage I still had time for a project that was also waiting for sunny days.
