Obstrução »» Obstruction

Ontem foi dia de limpar a casa. Depois de arrumar tudo no sitio, sacudir os tapetes e limpar o pó começo a aspirar, mas o aspirador só arrasta o lixo de um lado para o outro.
Desmanchei o aspirador todo, até que vejo qualquer coisa mais ou menos a meio do cano.
Munida de vários instrumentos (nem queiram saber) estive 15 minutos a tentar tirar o tal objecto.
Finalmente consegui! Era um jogador de futebol de brincar.
Incrédula como é que aquilo tinha lá entrado, mas ok. Toca a aspirar que se faz tarde.
Passado 5 minutos o aspirador já não aspirava outra vez.
Mau! Será por ser sexta feira 13?
Desmontei tudo outra vez. E conseguia ver outra coisa no tubo!
Mais 15 minutos e saía o 2ª membro da equipa de futebol!
Mas já conseguia ver os pés de mais um.
Meia hora depois tenho quase a equipa toda!

- FRANCISCO!!!!!
- Chamaste, mamã?
- Sim, chamei. Foste tu que pusestes estes brinquedos no aspirador?
- Sim! queria ajudar-te a limpar a casa!

Yesterday was cleaning day. After putting everything in it's place, shaking the dust off the carpets and cleaning the dust I began to vacuum, but the vacuum cleaner only dragged the trash from side to side.
I disassembled the whole vacuum cleaner until I saw something about halfway down the pipe.
Armed with various instruments (you don't want to know) I spent 15 minutes trying to get the object out.
I finally got it! It was a football player toy.
Disbelieving how it had came in there, but okay. Let's just vaccum because it's getting late.
After 5 minutes the vacuum cleaner was not vacuuming again.
Damn! Is it because it's Friday the 13th?
I took it all apart again. And I could see something else in the tube!
Another 15 minutes and the second member of the soccer team was out!
But I could already see the feet of another one .
Half an hour later I have almost the whole team!

- FRANCISCO !!!!!
- You called, Mommy?
- Yeah, I called. Did you put these toys in the vacuum cleaner?
- Yes! I wanted to help you clean the house!

Festas de aniversário »» Birthday Parties

É sempre com um enorme entusiasmo que preparo festas de aniversário, é algo que realmente adoro fazer. 
As festas de aniversário das miúdas têm-se simplificado de ano para ano. Como estão mais crescidas dispensam festas temáticas, com balões e afins.
Mas há algo que não dispensam: casa cheia de família e amigos!
 
Dois meses antes começo os preparativos. Faço uma lista com a ementa e a lista de compras para que nada me falte. Vou vendo as promoções nos supermercados e vou comprando as coisas com antecedência para também poupar algum dinheiro. Se se estiver atento é possível comprar bebidas, salgadinhos, batatas fritas, guloseimas e muitas outras coisas que compõem a festa em promoção.
Começo a preparar com antecedência também rissóis variados, croquetes e empadas, que depois de prontos congelo e ficam prontos a utilizar no dia da festa.

Faço uma lista (já vos disse que adoro listas?) do que vou fazer nos dias anteriores à festa.
No dia anterior há que fazer os bolos, as sobremesas, alterar um pouco a disposição da sala para que haja mais espaço para os convidados, pôr a mesa,  preparar as "mesas" de apoio para as sobremesas, bebidas e copos, talheres, guardanapos e pratos, para que facilmente todos tenham o que precisam à mão.

Este ano tive a ajuda preciosa das minhas duas pequenas grandes masterchefs. Passámos o dia 31 de Dezembro na cozinha as 3, mas valeu a pena. Acho que já lhes incuti este bichinho de fazer coisas sobretudo comidinhas e docinhos para receber a nossa família e amigos com tudo de melhor que podemos oferecer. 

No próprio dia é altura para fazer os últimos preparativos: ter atenção que as bebidas estão frescas, preparar a sapateira recheada, fazer a salada, preparar um prato de frutas descascadas e preparar as entradas. E depois desfrutar da festa e dos convidados que é sempre muito importante para que tudo corra bem.

1 de Janeiro de 2017. 12 anos das minhas gémeas.
Dia 1, dia de ano novo, dia delas, fomos 16 pessoas ao almoço. 

Entradas: 
Rissóis de Peixe e de Camarão, croquetes (1 dúzia de cada)
Sapateira recheada com tostinhas
Tábua de queijos e enchidos

Prato Principal:
Leitão Assado à Bairrada com laranja às rodelas, batata frita e salada

Sobremesas:
Delicia de Chocolate (Mousse de chocolate, natas e bolacha Maria às camadas)
Pudim de Ananás
Travessa de fruta: Abacaxi, melão, laranja e manga.

À tarde recebemos mais alguns membros da família e alguns amigos especiais (no total éramos 30 pessoas).

Salgados:
Rissóis de Peixe e de Camarão (2 dúzias e meia de cada)
Croquetes (2 dúzias)
Folhadinhos de Salsichas (24 unidades)
Empadinhas de Frango (3 dúzias)

Frango de Churrasco

Doces:
2 bolos de aniversário de chocolate (camisolas de basquetebol)
1 bolo de pão de ló recheado com doce de ovos (tentativa de semelhança a uma bola de basquetebol)
Torta de Maçã
Mini Croissants de Nutella
Pasteis de Tentúgal caseiros (receita aqui)
Suspiros

Bebidas:
Sumos, cerveja e vinhos, chá, chocolate quente e café.

As miúdas ADORAM esta festa, mas gostam também da que fazemos no fim de semana seguinte para as amigas delas.

It's always with great enthusiasm that I prepare birthday parties, it's something I really love doing.The girls' birthday parties have been simplified from year to year. As they grow up they do not need themed parties.But there is something they do need and want: our home filled with family and friends!

Two months before the preparations begin. I make a list with the menu and the shopping list so that nothing is missing. I will see the promotions in the supermarkets and I will buy things in advance to save some money. If you are aware you can buy drinks, snacks, chips, treats and many other things that make up the party on sale.

I begin to prepare in advance also varied patties, croquettes and chicken pies, which after ready you can put in the freezer and are ready to use on the day of the party. 
I make a list (have I told you I love lists?) of what I'm going to do in the days before the party.The previous day we have to make the cakes, the desserts, change the layout of the room so that there is more space for the guests, set the table, prepare the side tables for desserts, drinks and glasses, cutlery, napkins and dishes, so that everyone can easily have what they need at hand.


This year I had the precious help of my two little great masterchefs. The 3 of us spent the 31st of December in the kitchen, but it was worth it. I think I've already instilled in them this little pleasure to make things, mainly food and sweets, to welcome our family and friends with all the best we can offer.

On the day of the party it is time to make the last preparations: be sure that the drinks are fresh, prepare the stuffed crab, make the salad, prepare a plate of peeled fruit and prepare the entrees. And then enjoy the party and the guests it is always very important for everything to go well.

January 1, 2017. 12 years of my twins. 
Day 1, New Year's Day, their day, we were 16 people for lunch.

Appetizers: 
Fish and Shrimp patties, croquettes (1 dozen each) 
Stuffed crab with toasted bread 
Cheese plate 

Main course: 
Roasted suckling pig with orange slices, potato chips and salad 

Desserts: 
Chocolate Delight (layers of chocolate mousse, cream and Maria biscuit ) 
Pineapple pudding 
Fruit plate: Pineapple, melon, orange and mango. 

In the afternoon we received a few more family members and some special friends (in total there were 30 people). 

Salty:Fish and Shrimp Patties (2 and half dozen each) 
Croquettes (2 dozen) 
Sausage Rolls (24 units) 
Chicken Pies (3 dozen) 
Barbecue chicken 

Sweets: 
2 chocolate birthday cakes (basketball jerseys) 
1 sponge cake with custard cream (our try to make a basketball) 
Apple pie 
Nutella Mini Croissants 
Homemade Tentúgal pastries (recipe here) 
meringues 

Drinks:  
Juices, beer and wine, tea, hot chocolate and coffee. 

The girls LOVE this party, but they also like the one we have the following weekend for their friends.In a next post I will tell you how I organize a party for children only!

Primeiros dias do ano »» First days of the year

Como podem perceber, pela minha falta de notícias o início do ano foi intenso!

Ainda no ano velho começaram os preparativos para o GRANDE dia. 

E não, não me refiro à passagem de ano!

O GRANDE dia é o aniversário das miúdas. Alegria a dobrar!

1 de Janeiro de 2017. 12 anos. 20 adultos e 10 crianças. 

Casa cheia de família e amigos. Uma festa partilhada como eu espero que seja sempre pela vida fora. 

2 de Janeiro de 2017. 40 anos. Nós os 5. O meu aniversário.

8 de Janeiro de 2017. Festa para as amigas: 15 miúdas cheias de energia e o Francisco a adorar a confusão.

 

Foram dias fantásticos e felizes. E de muito trabalho, para mim, mas também para elas que ajudaram em tudo.

Com tanta confusão só agora é que deu para perceber que chegou um novo ano. E com ele 365 oportunidades para sermos felizes.

E agora começam os preparativos para a festa do Francisco, que é já no inicio de Fevereiro!

As you might have guessed, due to my lack of news the beginning of the year was intense! 

The preparations for the GREAT day began in the old year.
And no, I do not mean the New Year!
GREAT day is the girls' birthday. Joy to double!
 

January 1, 2017. 12 years old. 20 adults and 10 children.
House full of family and friends. A shared party like I expect it will always be throught out their life.

January 2, 2017. 40 years old. Just the 5 of us. My birthday.

January 8, 2017. Party for friends: 15 girls full of energy and Francisco loving the confusion.

These were fantastic and happy days. And a lot of work, for me, but also for the girls who helped in everything.
With so much confusion only now it is possible to realize that a new year has arrived. And with it 365 opportunities to be happy.

And now preparations begin for Francisco's birthday party, which is already at the beginning of February!

É Natal! »» So it's Christmas

Por aqui é Natal!
A casa está enfeitada e os presente foram todos embrulhados esta semana. São sempre as miúdas que embrulham os presentes que oferecemos à família. (eu embrulho os delas, mas é segredo).
Esta semana também fizemos bolachas, bombons recheados com leite condensado e com doce de ovos e vários bolos. Elas já estão umas verdadeiras masterchefs.
Fizeram também cadernos para oferecer. Projecto que aprenderam este período na disciplina de Educação Tecnológica.
Prendas feitas à mão com amor e carinho!
Um bom Natal para todos.

It's Christmas time! 
The house is decorated and the presents were all wrapped up this week. It's always the girls who wrap the gifts we offer to the family. (I wrap theirs, but it's a secret).
This week we also made cookies, bonbons filled with condensed milk and with custard cream and several cakes. The girls are becoming small masterchefs. 
They also made notebooks to offer. A project they learned at school in Technological Education classes.

Perlim

Fomos ao mundo encantado de Perlim este domingo e gostámos muito.
Para quem não sabe Perlim, em Santa Maria da Feira é o maior parque temático do país dedicado ao Natal.

We went to the enchanted world of Perlim this Sunday and enjoyed it very much.
For those who do not know Perlim, in Santa Maria da Feira is the largest theme park in the country dedicated to Christmas.

Esteve um domingo lindo de sol, mas mesmo assim apanhamos com uns floquinhos de neve. Vimos duendes, índios e cowboys, fadas e feiticeiros, princesas e rainhas, renas de verdade, e claro o Pai Natal na sua casa na Lapónia.
O parque está realmente muito bem conseguido tanto o cenário (onde foi dada imensa atenção aos pormenores) como as actividades e animações, mas o que gostámos mais e aquilo que realmente fomos ver foram os espectáculos musicais.
Numa tarde conseguimos ver o "Gotinhas e o Planeta Azul", depois fomos ver o "Regador de Sonhos", "O Xerife de Perlim", "Bombones" e "A Cor de Perlim".
Ainda ficaram alguns espectáculos por ver. Tive pena de não ver o "Castelo Encantado", numa recriação da história da Cinderela que se passa mesmo dentro do castelo de Santa Maria da Feira. Havia ainda actividades e ateliês para fazer, mas era impossível fazer tudo numa só tarde.
Escolhemos os espectáculos musicais porque agradaram tanto às miúdas (que adoraram as versões "perlinenses" de músicas bem conhecidas delas) como ao Francisco que ficou fascinado com os personagens e as histórias.
As histórias são alegres e divertidas, mas simples de modo que até os mais pequenos conseguem acompanhar. Revelam realmente que os conteúdos temáticos foram pensados e construídos para as crianças.
Um local de sonho a visitar nesta época de Natal!

It was a beautiful sunny Sunday, but even so we caught up with a few snowflakes. We saw elves, Indians and cowboys, fairies and wizards, princesses and queens, real reindeer, and of course Santa Claus in his house in Lapland.The park is really well done both the scenery (where immense attention to detail was given) and the activities and animations, but what we liked most and what we actually went to see were the musical shows.In just one afternoon we got to see the "Gotinhas and the Blue Planet", then we went to see "The Dreamer", "The Sheriff of Perlim", "Bombones" and "The Color of Perlim".There were still some shows to see. I was sorry I did not see the "Enchanted Castle", in a recreation of the Cinderella story that is actually is performed inside the castle of Santa Maria da Feira. There were still activities and workshops to do, but it was impossible to do everything in one afternoon.We chose the musical shows because all our kids liked them, the girls loved the "perlinenses" versions of well-known songs and Francisco was fascinated with the characters and the stories.The stories are cheerful and fun, but simple so that even the little ones can keep up. Really reveal that the thematic contents were thought and built for children.
 A dream place to visit in this special Christmas time!

Ganhámos!!! »» We won!!!

Bem, quem ganhou foram elas, mas cá em casa ficámos todos a ganhar :)
Aqui há tempos as miúdas participaram no passatempo de desenho e pintura ÁGUEDA TEM VIDA e este sábado fomos receber os prémios, e parecia Natal!
Este concurso foi promovido pela Grosoffice e pela Faber-Castell.
A Grosoffice é o meu local de eleição para compra do material escolar, pois é um armazém de venda a retalho de material de papelaria que também tem loja aberta ao público e onde encontramos todo o material escolar a preços muito competitivos.
A Faber-Castell todos conhecem pelas lindas caixas de metal cheias de lápis lindos e de excelente qualidade!
  
Well, who won was the girls, but here at home we all win! :)  
Sometime ago the girls participated in the drawing and painting contest named AGUEDA TEM VIDA (Águeda has life) and this saturday we went to receive the prizes, and it felt like Christmas!
This contest was promoted by Grosoffice and Faber-Castell. 
Grosoffice is my place of choice for purchasing school supplies, because it is a local stationery retail store that also has a store open to the public and where we find all school supplies at very competitive prices. 
Faber-Castell is well known for the beautiful metal boxes filled with beautiful pencils of excellent quality!

E foi com muito agrado que fomos informados que a Carolina ficou em 1º lugar e recebeu um vale de 100€ em compras na Grosoffice. O que para uma família numerosa é mesmo um excelente prémio, pois esse valor vai dar para comprar grande parte do material necessário para o próximo ano lectivo. Aqui está o desenho da Carolina:

And it was with great pleasure that we were informed that Carolina was 1st place and received a € 100 coupon in shopping at Grosoffice. An excellent prize for a large family, because this amount will be a great help to buy much of the material needed for the next school year. Here is Carolina´s drawing:

E a Beatriz ficou em 2º lugar e recebeu uma daquelas lindas caixas de metal, que me parece vai fazer as delicias de todos cá por casa.

O Sr. Paulo, dono da Grosoffice, vendo a cara da Carolina, que efectivamente não trazia nenhum presente na mão como a irmã, teve a simpatia de oferecer uma caixa gigante de marcadores.
O Francisco foi um sortudo e também recebeu um presente: uma caixa de triângulos de cera da Primo (depois conto-vos mais acerca destes triângulos, que desconhecia e são simplesmente fantásticos!)

Francisco was lucky and also received a gift: a box of Primo's wax triangles (later I'll tell you more about these triangles, which he did not know and are simply fantastic!)
