O estilo delas »» My girls' style

Elas gostam mais de calças do que de saias e vestidos. Há séculos que dispensam os laçarotes e as bandoletes e as fitas e as tranças. Ele é rabo de cavalo quase todos os dias. Como são elas que escolhem a roupa (já o fazem desde os 5 anos) é sempre calças ou calções, t'shirts ou sweatshirts, e sapatilhas. Sempre sapatilhas.

Continuam a gostar de vestir de igual, mas não sempre.

A Beatriz tem um estilo mais feminino e lá vai vestindo uns vestidinhos, a Carolina tem, claramente um estilo mais desportivo.

Mas saias é que nem pensar!

Acho que tenho culpa no cartório. Primeiro porque lhes vesti tantos vestidos fofinhos quando eram pequenas, que certamente se fartaram. Segundo, porque eu própria raramente visto saias ou vestidos!

Tento sempre lembrar-me que nós, as mães, somos sempre o primeiro exemplo, bom ou mau. E a partir daí ou nos imitam ou se rebelam e fazem tudo para nos contrariar. Muito mais quando estão a entrar na pré-adolescência.

Por isso, tomei a decisão e vou dar uma volta ao meu guarda-roupa e tentar, pelo menos, variar mais e vestir umas saias e vestidos ocasionalmente.

Depois do fim de semana de separação de tudo o que já não serve, de que vos falei neste post,  chegou o fim de semana de renovar o guarda-roupa.

Começo sempre por ir buscar as peças que estão guardadas numa prateleira no cimo do roupeiro delas. Estas são peças que comprei nos saldos do Inverno passado, a grande maioria compro online com descontos até 80%. É verdade que nessa altura gasto bastante dinheiro, mas muito menos do que gastaria se as fosse comprar agora!

Elas escolhem comigo, coisas que gostam mesmo e que conjugadas com peças básicas façam um look giro. Esta é a melhor altura para comprar camisolas boas, t'shirts e camisas de marca caras e um bom casaco de inverno, por exemplo. Compro em muitas lojas online mas as favoritas são a Zara, H&M, Benetton, Esprit, Zippy e Tiffosi.

Quando as encomendas chegam arrumo na tal prateleira de cima e elas já sabem que aquela roupa não é para usar logo. Como já faço isto desde que são pequenas já estão habituadas.

Depois vamos à Primark. Elas adoram muita da roupa de lá e é barata. Comprámos t'shirts, jeans, leggings, pijamas e um monte de outras peças e visto que foi tudo a dobrar não deixei lá nenhuma fortuna!

A roupa de desporto e as sapatilhas compro no Outlet da Sportzone, com descontos sempre superiores a 50%. Comprar em outlet não é fácil, pois podemos lá ir e ter imensas coisas boas a excelente preço ou não ter nada de jeito (ou pelo menos que nos interesse). Tenho a sorte de puder lá ir amiúde e assim quando vejo algo que me interesse compro e arrumo até servir.

Faço o mesmo para o mais novo, a diferença é ainda sou eu a escolher a roupa toda!

E vocês como é que organizam o guarda roupa dos miúdos?

They like more pants than skirts and dresses. They refuse to wear bows and headbands and ribbons and braids. It's ponytail almost every day. As they choose their own clothes (since they were 5) is always pants or shorts, t'shirts or sweatshirts, and sneakers. Always sneakers. 

They still like to dress the same, but not always. 

Beatriz has a more feminine style and once in a while we can see her in a dress, Carolina has clearly a more sporty style. 

But there's no way they wear skirts!

I think I have some guilt. First because they wore so many fluffy dresses when they were little, they certainly were tired of it. Second, because I rarely wear skirts or dresses! 

I always try to remember that we, the mothers, we are always the first example, good or bad. And from there they imitate us or rebel against us. Even more when they are going through preadolescence. 

So I made the decision and I will make some changes on my wardrobe and try to at least vary more and put some skirts and dresses occasionally.

After the weekend when we got rid of all that no longer fits, I told you about it in this post, we got to the weekend to renew the wardrobe.I always start by picking up the pieces that are stored on a top shelf in their closet. These are pieces that I bought last winter on sale, most were bought online with discounts up to 80%. It is true that at that time I spent a lot of money, but much less than I would spend if I were to buy it now!They choose the clothes themselves, things they really like and that can be combined with basic pieces and make a great look. This is the best time to buy good sweaters, t'shirts and expensive brand shirts and a good winter coat, for example. Our favorite online stores include Zara, H&M, Benetton, Esprit, Zippy and Tiffosi.When the orders arrived I put them in the top shelf and they already know that those clothes are for next year. As I do this since they were little they are already used to it.Then we go to Primark. They love a lot of clothes there and it's cheap. We bought t'shirts, jeans, leggings, pajamas and a lot of other pieces and we didn't spend a fortune!

The sports clothing and sneakers I buy at SportZone Outlet, with discounts always above 50%. Buying in outlets is not easy, because we can go there and find lots of good things to excellent price or find nothing at all. I am fortunate because I can go there often and so when I see something that interests me I buy it and save it for when the kids need it.

I do the same for my youngest kid, the ony difference is that I am the one that chooses everything!

Bolachas de Halloween »» Halloween Cookies

E aqui está o resultado de dois fins de tarde bem passados a fazer bolachinhas para o concurso de Bolachas Decoradas de Halloween lá para a escola das miúdas.

Veio uma colega da turma ajudar o que tornou a tarefa ainda mais divertida. Elas aprenderem a fazer as bolachas e a decorá-las como deve ser e adoraram!

Eu dei as instruções e uma ajudinha aqui e ali e eu que nem gosto nada disso! :)

Fazemos montes de vezes bolachas, mas assim decoradas a rigor é muito raro. Ficaram super orgulhosas do trabalho e acho que não é caso para menos.

And here is the result of two evenings well spent making cookies for Halloween Decorated Cookies contest at the girls' school.
A friend came to help which made the task even more fun. They learnt to make cookies and decorate them as professionals and they loved it!
I gave the instructions and a little help here and there. A task I DO (not) like at all! :)
We make cookies a lot but we don't usually decorate them.

They were super proud of their work and I think that is not the case for less.

Para quem quiser experimentar ficam aqui as instruções:

Massa das bolachas

300g de farinha sem fermento
200g de manteiga derretida
100g de açúcar

1 ovo

Coloque todos os ingredientes numa taça e bata com a batedeira e quando a massa estiver com o aspecto de migalhas retire e amasse até formar uma bola de massa.
Polvilhe uma superfície de trabalho com farinha e, com o rolo da massa, estenda a massa até ter cerca de 5mm de espessura. Corte com as forminhas e coloque num tabuleiro forrado com papel vegetal. Repita até esgotar toda a massa.

As nossas forminhas de Halloween comprei na Cake Lovers em Coimbra. Mas se não tiverem até podem usar um copinho pequenino (as nossas bolachas do esqueleto foram feitas assim).
Leve as bolachinhas a assar cerca de 8 a 10 minutos (até começarem a querer ficar douradinhas) a cerca de 180ºC. Deixe arrefecer.

Depois de frias trata-se então da decoração.

Para a decoração usámos pasta de açúcar colorida e uma caneta de tinta comestível, que também podem comprar na Cake Lovers. 

Basicamente estende-se a pasta de açúcar numa mesa polvilhada com açúcar em pó e corta-se com as forminhas. Para a pasta de açúcar aderir pincelámos as bolachas com geleia de marmelo. Depois com pedacinhos de pasta de açúcar e com a caneta de tinta comestível faz-se os pormenores.

  

For those of you that want to try here are the instructions:

Cookie Dough

300g plain flour
200g of melted butter
100g Sugar 

1 egg

Place all ingredients in a bowl and beat with an electric mixer and when the dough is with the appearance of crumbs remove and knead to form a dough ball.
Sprinkle a work surface with flour and with the rolling pin stretch the dough until you have about 5mm thick. Cut with the cookie cutters and place in a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Repeat until you finish all the dough. 

I bought our Halloween cookie cutters at Cake Lovers shop. But if you don't have cookie cutters you can use a small cup (our skeletons were made so).
Put the cookies in the oven (180º C) to bake for about 8 to 10 minutes ( just until they are golden on top). Allow them to cool.

After cooling you can decorate them. 

For decoration we used colored sugar paste and an edible ink pen, which you can also buy at Cake Lovers.  

Basically strech the sugar paste on a table sprinkled with powdered sugar and cut with the cutters. 

For the sugar paste to glue to the cookies we brushed them with quince jelly. Then with sugar paste bits and the edible ink pen we draw the little details.

Muito trabalho? Sim! Sem dúvida! Vale a pena? SIM! Tudo para as fazer felizes.

Lots of work? Yes! No doubt! Was it worth it? YES! All to make them happy.

A Roupa dos Miúdos »» Kids Clothes

Aquela altura do ano em que temos de dar a volta ao roupeiro dos miúdos e fazer a separação de tudo o que já não serve, chegou cá a casa à duas semanas atrás. Dá uma trabalheira e às vezes até uma certa tristeza, constatar que roupas especiais já deixaram de servir. Enfim!

Ter 3 filhos: 2 gémeas e 1 rapazito de 2 anos e meio é uma imensa alegria, mas também em muitos aspectos uma grande confusão.

Em relação à roupa, então, é sobretudo um gasto imenso! Como devem calcular não dá para guardar a roupa delas para ele. E também infelizmente não tenho nenhuma amiga com filhas mais velhas ou com um filho mais velho que me possa dar roupa. 

Por isso basicamente tenho que comprar tudo novo para os 3!

Até à pouco tempo dava basicamente a roupa toda que lhes deixava de servir.

Agora, seguindo os passos de uma amiga, comecei a vender no OLX e num grupo do Facebook. 

E estou muito satisfeita com o resultado!

O dinheiro obtido dá uma grande ajuda nas novas compras para encher novamente os roupeiros.

E vocês como é que fazem? Vendem ou dão tudo?

That time of year when we have to go to the kids wardrobe and decide which clothes no longer fit, arrived two weeks ago. It's really hard work and it's somehow sad, to find out that they have outgrown some special clothing!

Having 3 kids: 2 twin girls and 1 small boy is a great joy, but also in many ways lots of trouble. 

With regard to clothing, then, it is primarily a huge expense! It's obvious I can't save the girl's clothes for him. And I unfortunately have no friend with older daughters or with a older child who can give me clothes. 

So basically I have to buy everything new for the 3 of them! 

Until recently I would give all their outgrown clothes to others.
But recently, following in the footsteps of a friend, I started selling on OLX and a Facebook group. 

And I am very pleased with the outcome! 

The money earned is a great help in the new purchases to fill the wardrobes again.

Pouf de ganga »» Denim Bean Bag Chair

Gosto de ir mantendo o blog relativamente diversificado, mas ultimamente só me apetece coser!

Já percebi que gosto muito mais de coser no Inverno do que no Verão e tenho sentido uma enorme urgência em fazer coisas. Estou numa fase mais criativa e e ando cheia de ideias: de costura, feltro, pintura e até culinária! Já sei que estas fases são de pouca dura por isso tenho que aproveitar.

A rotina da vida de casa, arrumar, lavar, passar, cozinhar, e principalmente o vai vem do leva e trás das várias actividades das miúdas acaba por ensombrar o meu espírito criativo!

Nesta fase estou a adorar fazer coisas para o meu Francisco! Ele é um amor :)

Acerca da capa de edredon que lhe fiz recentemente disse-me: "Mamã, a minha caminha está muito linda. Obrigado!" - isto vindo de um menino de dois anos e meio é um grande elogio e incentivo!

Motivada pelo meu filhote fiz um pouf para o quartinho dele.

Não encontrei um molde que gostasse verdadeiramente, por isso fiz o meu próprio molde (agora depois de pronto já lhe faria mais alterações, mas é assim mesmo que funciona). Usei calças de ganga velhas, pois assim estou a reaproveitar e a ganga é um tecido óptimo para este tipo de projecto, pois é muito resistente. Para além disso o azul fica bem em quase todo o lado, muito mais num quarto de rapaz. E não passa de moda!

I like to keep the blog relatively diversified but lately all I want to do is sew. 
I've realised that I enjoy sewing much more in winter than summer, and lately I feel an urge to do things. I am in a more creative phase and full of ideas: sewing, painting and even cooking! I know that these phases don't last long so I have to take advantage.The everyday routine, tidying, washing, ironing, cooking, and driving the girls to their various activities eventually overshadow my creative spirit! 
At this stage I'm loving to make things for my Francisco! He is such a sweatheart :) 
About the duvet cover I made for him recently, he told me: "Mommy, my bed is very beautiful. Thank you." - This from a two and a half years old boy is really a great praise and encouragement! 

Motivated by my little boy I made a pouf for his room. 
I didn't  find a template that I truly liked, so I made my own (now after it's ready I would make more changes, but even so it works). I used old jeans, it's a great way to give it a new use and denim is a great fabric for this type of project, it is very tough. In addition, the blue looks good almost everywhere, much more in a boy's room. And doesn't get out of fashion!

Telas com Flamingos »» Flamingo Canvas Wall Art

Fiz mais um conjunto de telas para o quartinho dos mais pequeninos. Adoro! Acho que uns pequenos quadros ficam lindamente num quarto de bebé. Desta vez escolhi outro dos meus produtos mais vendidos, o mobile com flamingos, e fiz os quadros a combinar. Juntei o coração cinzento ao conjunto e adorei o resultado.

I made another set of canvas for the little ones' nursery. I just love it! I think a small canvas look  beautifully in a nursery. This time I chose another of my top selling products, the flamingo mobile , and made the canvas to match. I gathered the gray heart to the set and loved the result.

Folhado de frango »» Chicken Puff Pastry

Esta é uma receita que faço várias vezes, porque é uma excelente forma de aproveitar sobras de frango de churrasco.
Cá em casa todos adoramos frango de churrasco, mas ninguém gosta do peito, por isso compro sempre mais frango do que seria necessário e depois utilizo as sobras noutras receitas.
Esta é uma das maneiras mais fáceis e rápidas para aproveitar as sobras do frango.

This is a recipe I make several times because it is a great way to enjoy BBQ chicken leftovers. 
Here at home we all love BBQ chicken, but no one likes the breasts, so I always buy more chicken than necessary and then use the leftovers in other recipes. 
This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to enjoy chicken leftovers.

Folhado de frango
Numa frigideira colocar 2 dentes de alho aos pedacinhos a refogar em 2 colheres de sopa de azeite.
Juntar pedacinhos de bacon ou chouriço, o frango desfiado e cogumelos laminados (opcional). Deixar fritar.
Juntar 1 colher de sopa de farinha e 100ml de leite, mexer bem até engrossar. E o recheio está pronto!
Deixar arrefecer um pouco.
Cobrir uma assadeira com papel vegetal e estender lá uma placa de massa folhada refrigerada. Picá-la com um garfo e com uma faca fazer uns cortes nos lados, como se vê na foto. Colocar o recheio no centro e dobrar a massa intercalando uma tira de cada lado.
Pincelar com 1 gema batida e levar ao forno a 200º durante 20 a 30 minutos (depende do forno).


Chicken Puff Pastry
In a frying pan put 2 garlic cloves cut into small pieces to stew in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add chorizo or bacon bits, shredded chicken and sliced mushrooms (optional). Leave to fry. Add 1 tablespoon of flour and 100ml milk, stir well until thickened. And the filling is ready! 
Allow to cool a little.Line a baking tray with parchment paper and put there a refrigerated pastry board. Poke it with a fork and use a knife to make some cuts on the sides, as shown in the picture. Place the filling in the center and fold the mass sandwiching a strip on each side. Brush with 1 beaten egg yolk and bake at 200 ° for 20 to 30 minutes (depending on oven).

O meu Francisco está a crescer e parecia-me que a decoração do quarto dele às estrelinhas talvez não o entusiasmasse muito. Eu adoro ter tudo a combinar, nos mesmos tons, mas sei que assim que começam a crescer os miúdos precisam de cores fortes e o que mais querem é ter os bonecos que vêem na televisão espalhados pelo quarto fora.
Assim que vi este tecido soube que teria de o usar no quarto dele, pois está completamente apaixonado pela Patrulha Pata.
Comecei por fazer esta capa de edredon e ele adorou. Ainda sobrou tecido, vamos ver que mais vou fazer...

My Francisco is growing and it seemed to me that his room decor was not very exciting for him. 
I love to match everything, and to follow a color scheme, but I know that once they start growing kids need strong colors and what they want most is to have the figures they see on television in their room. 
So when I saw this fabric I knew I would have to use it in his room, because he is completely in love with Paw Patrol. 
I started by sewing this duvet cover and he loved it. I still have some fabric left, let's see what else I  will make ...
